BIT BY BIT IT

Wiring and Wi-Fi in Sherman Oaks

Sherman Oaks sits just south of Van Nuys, and the drive is short. The part of town that changes the work most is the hill. North of Ventura Boulevard you get flat lots with ranch homes and mid-century houses. South of it, the homes climb into the Santa Monica Mountains, and the layout of the house decides everything.

Hillside houses

Houses on a slope tend to be tall and narrow, with a living area on one level, bedrooms on another and a garage at the bottom. One router in the middle of that stack leaves the top or bottom floor weak. My usual fix is a wired access point on each level, with cable run through the walls or down from the attic and back to one spot. Where the house has a crawlspace or a basement-style lower level, that often gives me a clean path between floors.

Cameras on a hillside lot need thought too. A driveway that curves, a side stair, a back deck over a drop: I want to see where someone would actually walk before I choose mounting spots.

Condos and offices on and around Ventura

Plenty of people here live in condos and apartment buildings, and some of those have rules about what you can drill or run in a shared hallway. I ask about the HOA up front and work inside the unit where I can. For small offices above or between the shops on Ventura Boulevard, I set up the switch, the wireless and the cameras, and I leave a simple map of the cabling.

Working from home

Many Sherman Oaks households have two people on video calls at once. A wired connection to each desk keeps those calls steady, and I can put a separate access point near the room that gets the most use.

Call or write and we can set up a walkthrough. You show me the rooms, I come back with a plan and a quote.

What I do in Sherman Oaks

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.
