Next-Door Network Help in Lake Balboa

Lake Balboa is about as close to my Van Nuys base as a job can be. If something small breaks, I can usually come by without making it a whole day.

What the houses look like

The streets around the lake and the Sepulveda Basin are mostly ranch houses and a few two-story builds, mixed with small apartment buildings along Victory and Burbank Boulevards. Slab floors are the norm, so any new cable comes from the attic and goes down inside the wall. A garage with a low roof or blocked wall plate asks for more planning, and I will tell you what I find.

Everyday jobs

Many calls here are about the plain things. A television that keeps buffering because it is two rooms from the router. A desk in the spare bedroom that needs a wired line. A printer that drops off the network every few days. I sort out the cause, fix it and test the result while you watch.

Laptops and desktops

If your computer is slow or does not start, bring it up when we talk. I can look at it on the same visit as the network work, which saves a trip.

Outdoor space

Lake Balboa has plenty of homes with big yards and side gates, because the area runs near the park and the basin. A couple of cameras on the driveway and the back fence is a typical setup. I run the cable out of sight and keep the recorder somewhere safe indoors.

Apartments and condos

If you are in a small building, I work inside your unit and only touch shared spaces with the manager’s approval. In many cases a better router and a wired access point do the job without any drilling at all.
