BIT BY BIT IT

Woodland Hills Wiring and Wi-Fi

Woodland Hills spans a wide range of buildings. At the south edge, big houses sit on the slopes of the Santa Monica Mountains. Closer to Ventura Boulevard are townhouses and condo complexes, and to the north the Warner Center area has office towers and mid-size business parks.

Multi-story homes and townhouses

A tall townhouse is a classic Wi-Fi problem. Three stories, a garage on the bottom and a bedroom on top, and the router lives in the middle. I run cable between floors, often through the garage ceiling or a closet, and put a wired access point on each level. In a complex with an HOA, I check what is allowed before drilling anything on a shared wall or roof.

Hillside lots

Larger hillside houses can have long, awkward cable paths. I look at the attic, the crawlspace and the sub-floor to find the cleanest route, and I tell you honestly when a path is not worth the cost. Camera coverage on these lots matters because the sightlines are odd: a driveway above the street, a deck over a slope.

Offices and small business

Around Warner Center and Ventura Boulevard, I work with smaller businesses that outgrew a single router. That might mean a proper rack with a switch, a server for shared files, and a clear layout of which port feeds which desk. I label it so whoever manages it next is not guessing.

Out on Ventura

It is a longer trip west from Van Nuys, out along Ventura Boulevard or the 101. I plan visits so the walkthrough is worth the drive, and I send the plan and quote after.

If your home or office is in Woodland Hills, get in touch and tell me a little about the building.

What I do in Woodland Hills

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.
