BIT BY BIT IT

Calabasas Gated Communities and Big Homes

Calabasas leans suburban and spread out, with a lot of homes inside gated communities and a few on larger hillside or ranch lots. Large floor plans and big lots mean the same two challenges: coverage and security.

Gated communities and HOAs

Many homes here sit inside communities with HOA rules about exterior changes. Before I mount cameras on the front of a house, I find out what the association allows. Most communities accept a discreet camera under the eave, and I run cable through the attic so nothing hangs on the outside.

Large floor plans

A 4,000 square foot house with a bonus room, a loft and a three-car garage needs several wired access points. I plan them by floor and by wing, run cable to each, and bring it all back to one spot. Newer homes often have attics with room to walk, which makes it much easier.

Hillside and ranch lots

Some properties in the hills along Mulholland Highway have long driveways, barns and workshops. For these, I plan cable paths between buildings, use conduit where it helps and look at a wireless link when the distance is too great. Cameras cover the gate, the driveway and the outbuildings.

Home offices

Calabasas has many home offices and home studios. I run ethernet to the desk and to any audio or video gear, and set up a clean network storage box if you need one.

Old Town and The Commons

Small offices and shops near Calabasas Road are not far off the freeway. I set up networks and cameras, label the cables and write down what connects to what.

Along the 101

Calabasas is a drive west from Van Nuys along the 101. It is on the edge of the Valley, past Woodland Hills. Call or write and I will plan a walkthrough.

What I do in Calabasas

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.

How a job goes

  1. Walkthrough

I come out, look at the space, and you show me where you want connections and cameras.

  2. Plan and quote

You get a clear plan of what goes where and a price before any work starts.

  3. Install

Cable gets run, gear gets mounted, and everything is tested room by room.

  4. Hand-off

Before I leave, I show you how to use the camera app, the Wi-Fi and anything else I set up.
