BIT BY BIT IT

Canoga Park Offices, Shops and Homes

Canoga Park has two kinds of work that make sense to me. One is the small business near Warner Center and Sherman Way. The other is the older family house on a quiet street with a back room full of tangled cable.

Small business networks

Canoga Avenue and Sherman Way hold small manufacturers, auto shops, clinics and offices. A business like that often has one router, a switch plugged into it and a few shared devices. I tidy it into something that holds up: a labeled patch panel or switch, a server or storage box for shared files if you need one, and cameras on the doors and the yard. Industrial-style buildings have tall ceilings and block walls, so cable usually follows the roof structure or a conduit.

Cameras for lots and yards

Open lots, loading doors and alleys are where cameras help. I choose positions so the view covers the entry and a few feet around it, then set up the recorder so footage is kept for as long as the hard drive allows.

Older homes

A lot of the houses in the area are single-story ranch homes on slabs, many from the 1950s and 1960s. Cable has to come from the attic, down inside the wall, which I can do cleanly in most of them. If you have a detached garage or workshop you want connected, I can plan a run for that too.

Network problems

If your connection drops during the workday, the cause can be a bad cable, an old switch, or a printer that keeps taking an address it should not. I check each part, test, and tell you what I find. You get a clear explanation, not just a replacement part.

Out west

It is a drive west from Van Nuys, along Sherman Way or Victory. Message me and I will arrange a walkthrough.

What I do in Canoga Park

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.

How a job goes

  4. Hand-off

Before I leave, I show you how to use the camera app, the Wi-Fi and anything else I set up.
