BIT BY BIT IT

Silver Lake Hillside Homes and Shops

Silver Lake is one of those parts of town where the houses are the interesting part. Mid-century modern places with glass walls, Spanish bungalows on narrow hillside streets, and small cottages stacked up the slopes around the reservoir.

Glass, concrete and steep lots

Mid-century homes often have big windows, post-and-beam ceilings and few spots to hide cable. Many sit on slopes with a lower level cut into the hill. I look for paths through the crawlspace, the attic if there is one, and the carport or garage. A wired access point on each level carries the signal better than a stronger router in the main room.

Bungalows and hillside cottages

Small Spanish and Craftsman places on the hills have plaster walls and tight attic space. I plan around those, and I will tell you when a room cannot be reached without damage. Sometimes a neat surface run in a closet is a better answer than a hole in a wall.

Cameras on steep streets

Houses stacked up a hillside have stairs, retaining walls and hidden corners. A camera on the stair landing or the garage door tells you more than one pointed at the street. I choose spots by walking the property with you.

Freelancers and creative work

Silver Lake has many people who work from home or from a small studio: designers, musicians, editors, writers. A wired connection to the desk makes video calls and large uploads steadier, and I can set up storage for projects.

Sunset Junction

The small businesses around Sunset Junction, with cafes, shops and offices, need dependable networks and a view of the doors. I keep installations neat in older buildings with brick or plaster.

Across town

Silver Lake is a long drive from Van Nuys, east through the middle of the city. I plan visits to make the walkthrough count. Send a message and I will get back to you.

What I do in Silver Lake

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.

How a job goes

  1. Walkthrough

I come out, look at the space, and you show me where you want connections and cameras.

  2. Plan and quote

You get a clear plan of what goes where and a price before any work starts.

  3. Install

Cable gets run, gear gets mounted, and everything is tested room by room.

  4. Hand-off

Before I leave, I show you how to use the camera app, the Wi-Fi and anything else I set up.
