BIT BY BIT IT

Downtown Los Angeles Lofts and Offices

Downtown Los Angeles has a mix of buildings that works differently from the rest of the region. Converted lofts in old warehouses and bank buildings, new towers with amenities, and small offices on upper floors in the Historic Core.

Lofts with concrete everywhere

Loft conversions usually have exposed concrete or brick, high ceilings and very little hidden space. Wi-Fi does not pass through concrete well, and drilling it is rarely allowed. I plan around that with access points placed on each side of the thick walls, joined by surface raceway, or by existing conduit where there is some. If your building is strict, I will work with management so there are no surprises.

Arts District studios

Artists, designers and makers use workspaces in the Arts District, often with open floors and long distances. A studio might need a wired desk for the main computer, an access point that covers the whole floor, and cameras on the door. I keep installs tidy, since the space is the product.

Small offices in older towers

Historic Core buildings have small suites with older wiring behind the walls. I find what is there, test it and decide what to keep and what to replace. A neat rack or cabinet, a switch, a router and a few wired desks usually does it. A small server or storage box can give a team a shared place for files.

Fashion District and Little Tokyo shops

The streets of the Fashion District and Little Tokyo have many small businesses with tight back rooms. I set up networks for registers, printers and cameras, and keep gear compact.

Building rules

Downtown buildings often have rules about contractors, hours and elevators. I ask about those at the start, so the visit is not wasted.

Getting downtown

Downtown is a long drive from Van Nuys, usually by way of the 101 or the 5. Message me with the building and the suite, and we can plan a walkthrough.

What I do in Downtown Los Angeles

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.

How a job goes

  1. Walkthrough

I come out, look at the space, and you show me where you want connections and cameras.

  2. Plan and quote

You get a clear plan of what goes where and a price before any work starts.

  3. Install

Cable gets run, gear gets mounted, and everything is tested room by room.

  4. Hand-off

Before I leave, I show you how to use the camera app, the Wi-Fi and anything else I set up.
