BIT BY BIT IT

Koreatown Offices, Restaurants and Apartments

Koreatown is among the most densely built parts of Los Angeles, with high-rise apartments, mid-rise condos, restaurant strips and small offices all within a few blocks. Almost every job here involves a building with rules.

Apartments and condos

Most people in Koreatown live in multi-unit buildings from the 1920s through the 1970s. Concrete floors, plaster ceilings and shared hallways limit what is possible. I work within the unit: a better router, a second access point on a short wired run, and slim cable along the baseboard. If cable has to go through a common space, I tell you what the manager or the HOA needs to approve.

Restaurants and cafes

Restaurants along Wilshire, Olympic and Western stay busy late, and a network problem during the dinner rush is expensive. I wire the register, the kitchen printer and the card reader, add Wi-Fi that does not cut out, and place cameras at the entrance and back door. I leave a diagram of what is connected.

Small offices

Dentists, tax preparers, insurance agents, tutoring centers and design shops fill the upper floors of commercial buildings. A small office needs a neat wall-mount rack or cabinet, a switch, a firewall or router, and a few wired desks. I install that and mark every cable end. If you share a building with other tenants, I stay within your suite.

Slow connections in crowded buildings

With dozens of routers on every floor, channels are crowded. I check signal conditions, adjust settings and wire what I can. Often that matters more than the plan from your internet provider.

Computers

A PC or laptop that is slow, noisy or will not start gets a look too.

Parking and access

Koreatown is a drive from Van Nuys, on the other side of the Hollywood hills. Parking and building access are tricky, so I ask about both when we plan the visit. Call or write.

What I do in Koreatown

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.

How a job goes

  1. Walkthrough

I come out, look at the space, and you show me where you want connections and cameras.

  2. Plan and quote

You get a clear plan of what goes where and a price before any work starts.

  3. Install

Cable gets run, gear gets mounted, and everything is tested room by room.

  4. Hand-off

Before I leave, I show you how to use the camera app, the Wi-Fi and anything else I set up.
