BIT BY BIT IT

West Los Angeles Apartments and Offices

West LA is a spread of different building types: low-rise apartment blocks, post-war ranch homes, small commercial strips and a lot of mid-size offices. The calls I would expect here are usually about the basics done well.

Apartment blocks

A huge share of people here rent in small apartment buildings of the 1950s through 1970s. Many are stucco buildings with plaster over wire lath, which blocks Wi-Fi in odd ways. Moving the router to a central room and adding a wired access point on a short run often helps more than a new provider. I do not drill without permission.

Ranch homes

Away from the main streets, there are single-story ranch houses on slabs, with attics I can use. I run cable from the attic inside the wall to a plate in each room you choose, and I bring it back to one place in the garage or a closet.

Offices along the boulevards

Santa Monica Boulevard and Pico have small law offices, medical practices, agencies and insurance offices. They want networks that work all day, secure Wi-Fi for staff, separate Wi-Fi for visitors and a neat closet. I set that up, and I put a simple sheet in the closet saying what connects to what.

Sawtelle shops and restaurants

The Sawtelle strip has small restaurants and shops in older buildings. A reliable register connection and cameras on the door and the back alley are the usual starting points.

Troubleshooting slow networks

If everything is slow after five o’clock, or video calls freeze, the cause is often a crowded Wi-Fi channel or a bad cable. I check them one by one and report what I find.

On the Westside

West LA is over the Sepulveda Pass from Van Nuys. Call or write for a walkthrough.

What I do in West Los Angeles

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.
