BIT BY BIT IT

Culver City Studios, Startups and Homes

Culver City has its own mix of work: studios and post houses near the old lots, a cluster of small tech and design companies, and a downtown full of restaurants and galleries. The housing is a mix of 1940s and 1950s houses, apartments and newer condos.

Small creative and tech offices

A 5 to 15 person office in a converted warehouse or low-rise needs a clean network closet, a firewall or router, switches, and wired drops at the desks. I install that and put wireless coverage where people sit and where guests meet. If your team shares large files, I can set up a server or network storage with a backup so the project does not live on one person’s laptop.

Edit rooms and studios

Near the old studio lots, small post and recording shops run out of garages, bungalows and light-industrial units. I run ethernet to the workstations and storage, label everything and make sure the Wi-Fi does not interfere with the work. Sound people tend to care about hum and noise, so I keep power and data runs separate where I can.

Houses with slabs and small attics

Residential streets such as those around Culver Boulevard have single-story homes, often stucco, and some duplexes. Work happens through the attic and the garage. Wi-Fi in a small house is easier to fix than in a big one, and a wired line to the main desk plus one access point often does it.

Downtown shops and restaurants

Around the Culver Hotel area, the small shops and restaurants rely on card readers and printers that need a steady connection. I wire what can be wired, and mount cameras to cover the entry and the back.

Newer condos

Culver City has many newer condo buildings with structured wiring in the walls. I look at what’s there before running anything new.

Over the hill

Culver City is across the Sepulveda Pass from Van Nuys, a longer drive but straightforward. Send a note about your place.

What I do in Culver City

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.
