BIT BY BIT IT

Newer Homes, Better Networks in Porter Ranch

Porter Ranch is mostly newer construction: large two-story homes, planned streets and plenty of attic space. That helps me, because newer houses are easier to wire than older ones. It also means the houses are big, and they get Wi-Fi dead spots even though they are new.

Built big, covered badly

A new house often arrives with one router in a utility closet or on the first floor. By the time the signal reaches the upstairs bedroom, or the office at the far end, it is weak. My approach is to put wired access points on each floor and run cable to a central spot. With roomy attics and straight walls, many runs are quick and tidy.

Check what the builder left

Some newer homes already have structured wiring, with coax or ethernet pulled to a panel in the garage or a closet. I look at what is there before I add anything, because sometimes the cable exists and only needs the right ends and a switch. If it is not usable, I tell you and run new.

Home offices and media rooms

Porter Ranch has many people working from a dedicated office or a bonus room. I run ethernet to the desk and to the TV and game console, so the main Wi-Fi is left free for phones and tablets.

Cameras and HOA rules

Many homes here sit in communities with HOAs. Before I mount a camera on the exterior, I ask what the rules say about placement and visibility. Most of the time, a camera under the eave at the front door and on the garage is fine, and I keep cables hidden.

What I do in Porter Ranch

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.

How a job goes

  1. Walkthrough

I come out, look at the space, and you show me where you want connections and cameras.

  2. Plan and quote

You get a clear plan of what goes where and a price before any work starts.

  3. Install

Cable gets run, gear gets mounted, and everything is tested room by room.

  4. Hand-off

Before I leave, I show you how to use the camera app, the Wi-Fi and anything else I set up.
