BIT BY BIT IT

Glendale Hills, Offices and Apartments

Glendale is a city of contrasts, and the work changes street by street. Downtown around Brand Boulevard there are mid-rise offices and apartment towers. A mile or two off that, there are older apartment buildings and single-family houses climbing into the Verdugo Mountains.

Older apartments and courtyard buildings

Plenty of Glendale housing is older multi-family stock with thick plaster walls and no data cable at all. If you rent, I look for approaches that do not require drilling: cable along baseboards and door frames, a better router in a better place, an access point that stays in the room it serves. I tell you what the landlord needs to approve.

Hillside houses

On streets like those in Adams Hill and Verdugo Woodlands, houses were built on slopes. Multiple levels and a basement-style lower floor are common. One router leaves a bedroom or two unreachable, so I put access points on the main floors and run cable through the attic, a closet or the lower level. Crawlspaces on the downhill side sometimes give me an easy path, and I look at what is there before choosing.

Offices and small business

Offices near Brand and Glendale Avenue range from law and accounting practices to design shops. A small office needs a clean rack or wall-mounted switch, dependable Wi-Fi for visitors on a separate network, and sometimes a server for files. I put in what the office needs and leave a diagram of the cable.

Cameras

Glendale homes on slopes often have a lot of ground to watch: stairs, driveways with a steep pitch and side paths. I plan camera coverage around the way people actually come and go.

Over past Burbank

Glendale is east of Van Nuys past Burbank, a trip through the 134 corridor or surface streets. I arrange visits so a single trip covers the whole walkthrough. Call or write and tell me about your building.

What I do in Glendale

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.
