BIT BY BIT IT

La Cañada Flintridge Homes on the Hill

La Cañada Flintridge is residential and tucked against the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. Houses here are on sizable lots, many on slopes, and a number of them are older homes that have been added onto more than once.

Hillside lots and long sightlines

Camera coverage on a slope is different from a flat lot. A driveway might rise from the street, a side path might drop to a patio and a back fence might sit uphill. I walk the property with you to see where cameras would catch someone arriving and where you want to see activity. Cable runs go through the attic or under the eaves to a recorder in the house.

Added-on houses

When a house has been expanded, the original footprint and the additions can feel like two separate buildings. Walls change, the floor level may change and the attic may be divided. I trace the cable path before I promise a result. In many cases, a wired access point in the addition and another in the older section solves it.

Large homes and Wi-Fi

Several of these homes are big enough that a single router never reached the far wing. I plan access points by floor and by zone, then wire each one back to a central spot so it is easy to maintain.

Outbuildings and guest houses

Detached studios, garages and guest houses are common. If the distance allows, I run a cable in conduit. If it does not, I look at a wireless bridge between buildings.

Wildfire-season thinking

If you are away from the property a lot, a camera view on your phone helps. I can set that up, along with a backup drive for your important files, and I explain how both work.

Up against the foothills

La Cañada Flintridge is a longer drive east and north from Van Nuys, along the 210 or the 134. Message me with your property details and I will schedule a walkthrough.

What I do in La Cañada Flintridge

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.
