BIT BY BIT IT

Old Town and Foothill Homes in Monrovia

Monrovia sits right against the San Gabriel Mountains, and the neighborhoods change as you move up toward the hills. Near Myrtle Avenue and Old Town, there are historic houses, courtyard apartments and small shops. Higher up, the lots are larger and the houses are more recent.

Historic and older houses

Many homes near the center of town date from the early and mid twentieth century. Walls are plaster, attics are cramped and there are porch roofs, enclosed back porches and add-on rooms. I plan cable paths around those. If I find that one room cannot be reached cleanly, I will say so and suggest an access point placed to cover it.

Properties near the hills

Closer to the foothills, houses sit on sloped lots with long driveways and space around them. The camera plan matters here. I look at the approach from the street, the side paths and the back, and I choose positions that catch someone before they reach the house. For Wi-Fi, a wired access point on each floor and one at the patio or detached space does a lot more than a stronger router.

Old Town shops

The shops, cafes and offices along Myrtle Avenue deal with foot traffic and tight counters. I set up networks for registers and printers, and cameras for the door. I try to be tidy about cable, since many of these businesses are in older brick buildings.

Working at home

Remote work is common, and so are kids doing homework at the kitchen table. A wired line to a desk and a good access point in the main living area covers most households.

Foothill drive

Monrovia is a long drive east from Van Nuys, up against the foothills, so I plan the walkthrough to cover everything in one go. Write or call and tell me what you have.

What I do in Monrovia

  • Security cameras

Wired cameras mounted where they cover what matters, a recorder set up to keep footage, and viewing on your phone.

  • Wi-Fi coverage

Access points wired back to your network so the signal reaches the rooms that used to be dead zones.

  • Ethernet wiring

I pull cable through the walls and attic to the rooms you pick, finish it at clean wall jacks, and bring every run back to one central spot.

  • Servers and network gear

Racks, switches, routers and home or office servers installed, configured and cabled neatly.

  • Laptop and PC repair

A computer that's slow, won't start, throws errors, or just isn't acting right. I'll track down what's wrong and get it running again.

  • Network troubleshooting

Internet that crawls, devices that keep dropping off, or a setup someone else left behind. I'll find the problem and fix it.

How a job goes

  1. Walkthrough

I come out, look at the space, and you show me where you want connections and cameras.

  2. Plan and quote

You get a clear plan of what goes where and a price before any work starts.

  3. Install

Cable gets run, gear gets mounted, and everything is tested room by room.

  4. Hand-off

Before I leave, I show you how to use the camera app, the Wi-Fi and anything else I set up.
